FEAST / FAMINE
I got laid off way back in November and burned through all of my savings and had to rely on friends to loan me $$$ to get by , and my friends came through for me , seeing me through a difficult time. Actually , my friends came through for me when I bailed on my old job way back in June. Local and otherwise , still friends and maybe not so much , they saw me through and for that I am forever thankful.
These last couple of years have been crazy on a number of levels for me and I am beholden to friends who hung in there with me through a very difficult time in my life. And for the very few (one) that didn't , you can go fuck yourself.
I feel like I'm back on track after a very long stroll through the wilderness. I am once again (as of the last week) gainfully employed...one full time job , one part time and I am very excited about both. My full time job is in an area that I have lots of experience in and my part time job is something I wish I had thought of long ago...stagehand / event security ! Perhaps a foot in the door I missed after all these years playing music in this town. And my inaugural gig is load in / out for Megadeth and Motorhead...WOOHOO !
SXSW is upon us and I will be busy as hell.
A band reunion looms on the horizon and I have songs in my head banging around to get out. My son is in production of a short film based on our song Rest stop , which is the plot anchor ... yes things are looking up.

NEWS OF THE STUPID
Facebook in the news : A convicted felon in Mo. got busted with 15 guns , after police monitoring a gun group on fb saw that she was trying to sell an assault rifle through the group.
A woman , married ( happily, she thought ) for 8 years was shown her husbands "secret" fb page by a friend ... his profile picture was with another woman and he was professing his love and celebrating a 3rd month anniversary .
On a related note , a study in the UK found that one in three divorces in the UK involved "unreasonable behavior" by a spouse on fb. More and more divorce proceedings rely on evidence from fb accounts.
Our military in the news : Remember this?
US soldiers at Bagram air base in Afghanistan burned some korans in plain view of locals the other day , the death toll stands at 23 so far with no sign of the violence subsiding anytime soon. I guess they forgot what happened when that idiot preacher burned ONE koran in Florida way back in March of 2011? 30 killed and 150 injured for that one.

There are lots of things you can point a finger at about FB that are just fundamentally wrong... data mining , fast and loose privacy issues , reconnecting with people that only ultimately remind you of why you disconnected with them in the first place ( goes both ways ) and that ex's are ex's for a reason. I find it simultaneously ironic and tragic that you can be admonished and derided for lying to a person and then they turn around and lie to you like it's no big deal ( oh , wait...that's another post ) . Anyway...with that said there are some good things about FB if you can avoid most of the bullshit .
I've managed to reconnect with family members overseas and long lost friends here that are not , in my opinion , fucking nuts (again...goes both ways , it's a matter of opinion , and as Red says in Platoon "opinions are like assholes , everybody's got one".)
But I have to say the thing that bugs me the most about FB is chain letter posts...posts about cancer victims , fat plain looking people, people who love their kids , that kind of sappy shit...
And the most annoying part of these type posts is the end where they say " 97% of my friends won't repost this and 3% will , let's see which of my friends repost" or " repost this if you are morbidly obese and proud" or "repost this if you know someone who...( insert tragic circumstance here) .
If I wanted to deal with shit like this I wouldn't have blocked those "send this email to ten of your friends by midnight to receive the blessing of christ" emails so long ago. Or the nigerian " please help me retrieve 88 bajillion dollars in blood diamonds by sending me your vital information " emails.
And then there's the god stuff...hey you know what ? fuck your god...keep that shit to yourself...especially when you come after me for having a differing opinion. You want to be a christian...fine , spare me the propaganda.
I want to see pictures of your family , your pets, cool shit you've done or seen , videos of songs you like , commentary about politics and life in the world as it is.
Just shut it with the chain letters...or I'll be forced to hide you.

YOU GOT YOUR SANTORUM ON MY ROMNEY
The latest poll shows brother rick a full 10 points ahead of mittens. I have been following this circus from the beginning , and , as far as I was concerned they were doing a fine job all on their own demonstrating how pathetically ridiculous the GOP field of contenders was / is.
But this development was a confirmation of my worst fears about us americans. Let's briefly recap...we have a serial adulterer , a completely detached money grubbing new england ass hat , a constitutionally consistent but otherwise fairly nutty old guy , and we have brother rick...
And unfortunately , it looks like a two way contest between a man that believes life begins at erection , homosexuality is an aberration and women have no clue what they want without the guidance of man and a man who made his millions preying on people , would like it better if we po' folks were invisible and mute and has a spooky resemblance to male leads in 70's television crime dramas.
But the really scary thing to me is that likely republican voters prefer a (less than) neanderthal minded religious zealot to a vulturous animal abuser who can't seem to make up his mind exactly what he stands for.
It would appear that LRV's (likely republican voter) are of a like mindset to brother rick , which is to say right wing nut job christians who define modern christianity like he does...my way or the highway. It's all good until you disagree with them and when you do , you are marginalized and in essence shunned and on the fast track to hell. I can speak to this from repeated experiences throughout my life with the religious right.
Neither one has a chance against the great (semi) black hope , who , as far as I'm concerned is a massive disappointment . But still...I dislike and mistrust rick and mitt much more than I dislike and mistrust barry.
Cannot wait for the shellac-in to come after the GOP picks it's chosen one...
